are kids invited?
Do i need a passport to travel to Mexico?
Yes, a passport is required to enter Mexico and must be valid for 6 months following your entry date. Therefore, if your passport is set to expire anytime before October 2024, you will not be able to enter Mexico. We recommend renewing as far in advance as possible. If you have any questions please reach out to Danielle (contact information is listed at the bottom of this page).
how much do i tip?
Taxes and gratuities are included with your stay. However, I recommend going a bit above the general tipping policy, but ultimately that is all up to you, nothing is required!
Bring small US bills for tipping if you plan on doing so, this will make everything easier for you to know how much you are tipping at a time.
Housekeeping: $3-$5/per room depending on how they keep the room and if they do any little extras- like restocking the minibar with things you have mentioned you like, towel animals, little notes, extra towels, etc.
Bartenders/Bar Staff: If you are just going for a drink or two $1 is sufficient. If you plan on being at the swim-up bar, beach, or pool all day and want to keep the wait and bar staff coming back, tip heavy on your first drink, then tip again every few drinks or so. Start with a $5-$10 for heavy orders then repeat as necessary.
Wait staff: I recommend $5 depending on how great they serviced you.
Concierge: If you request dinner reservations, extra excursions, or just anything a bit "extra" it never hurts to tip the concierge for going above and beyond- they will remember you and may give you priority reservations!
Bellmen, transportation drivers: I recommend $1/bag unless the transportation driver acted as a tour guide and gave me insight into the area, suggestions of local attractions/things to do, etc. then I recommend $5 or more/per person.
If you are looking to experience more of the area, please reach out to Danielle for suggestions. Here are a few of our favorites, in parenthesis is how far the location is from our resort, Dreams Riviera Cancun:
Relaxation: Catamaran Sailing Tour to Isla Mujeres (2 Hours), golf tee times (5 minutes), and spa appointments at the on-site spa (5 minutes)
History (these sites are located approximately 2.5 hours away, it is recommended to schedule an all-day adventure to include many of these activities together): Ek Balam, Chichen Itza, Coba, Tulum (1.5 hours away), and El Meco (1 hour away)
Adventure (time varies, recommended to schedule all-day adventure to include many of these activities together): Cenote (natural swimming hole), ATV adventures, snorkel tours, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing charters, swimming with the dolphins and jet ski/water ski
what is there to do in the area, outside of the resort?
You can expect to see temperatures around 85-86F, rarely falling below 77F. The ocean maintains temps around 80F, whereas swimming pools will most likely be warmer due to higher temps. You can expect to see some rainfall in the forecast, but typically the area will only experience rain for a few hours in the early afternoon and clear up again in the evening hours. Make sure to bring a light jacket, at night with the breeze it can be chilly!

what is the wedding dress code?
Since the temperature can be quite warm we recommend bringing light summer clothing including swimsuits, light casual dresses, cover-ups, and linen-style pants to keep cool. Make sure to note the restaurant dress code above. If you plan on going on any excursions closed toed athletic shoes may be required.
Other helpful essentials include sunblock (lots and lots of sunblock, the sun is very intense in Mexico so please be prepared), water shoes, bug spray, aloe or after burn, flip-flops, rash guard, pain reliever, Pepto Bismal, antacids, sunglasses, sun hat, large refillable water bottle, straw (metal - only paper ones are handed out with drinks), books, etc.
If you like to float in the pool, bring a pool floatie! While definitely not necessary, it is nice to have your own to relax and enjoy with.
There will be a small shop on-site, but prices are quite high so make sure to come prepared!
Before packing remember TSA rules for smooth sailing through security checkpoints:
No liquids, including sealed water bottles, are permitted.
Liquids, gels, and aerosols packed in carry-on must follow the 3-1-1 liquids rule: 3.4 ounces or less per container, 1-quart size, clear, plastic, zip-top bag (all liquids must fit in the bag), 1 bag per passenger. Placed bag in front pocket of your carry-on for accessibility.
If purchasing a bag lock, be sure to look for those that are TSA approved
Do not pack items such as box cutters, utility knives, and razors in carry-on luggage. Razor blades intended for shaving that is enclosed in a safety cartridge in which the blade cannot be removed are permitted.
Pack large electronics on the top layer of the carry-on for screening accessibility. These also may be required for removal from your bag through checkpoints. TSA agents will guide you
Note the baggage weight limit for all checked bags and bag size for both carry-on and checked bags. This may vary across airlines.
Most airlines only allow one carry-on and one personal item per person - please double-check with your airline and be aware of this as you board the plane.
what do i pack?
You will be invited to a “VIP Breakfast”, it is encouraged to turn the staff down to attend this meeting. It is actually a timeshare presentation, and won’t be worth your precious vacation time!
You may be invited to receive a “Resort Coupon Book/Credit”, these coupons are only good on items that may not be necessary like bottles of wine (remember you get free glasses of wine throughout the property), discounts on spa treatments (only one can be used per treatment, can not be used on discounted/packaged treatments), romantic beachfront dinners. etc. Most times it isn’t worth the hassle of attempting to get these, let Danielle know if you want more information.
You may want to bring “Damp Rid”, while it certainly is not going to make a huge impact on your stay, it will leave your room and clothing feeling less “damp”, because of the high humidity and A/C
Don’t be afraid to order multiple appetizers, entrees & desserts - you are at an all-inclusive! Everything is included, so why not so big?!
Download the AMResorts app, you’ll find helpful information on our resort, Dreams Riveria Cancun, restaurant hours, activity times, etc. Also, download What’s App, which is a free messaging service you can use on WiFi to connect with family and friends.
